Youth Programming

Jerry’s Macca-beez

In early 2026, interest beyond our popular monthly Tot Shabbat program led to the creation of a weekly class for children aged 2-6 years old. A generous donation allowed us to create a one-of-a-kind program called Jerry’s Macca-beez. A classroom was quickly furnished with toddler-sized furniture, and 11 children from nine families attended every week.

In this ongoing early education introductory program, Rabbi Singer teaches the Aleph Bet, leads craft projects, reads Jewish stories, and teaches about Israel and the Jewish holidays.

Our young families – both parents and children alike – love attending Jerry’s Macca-beez and are delighted to be a part of a Jewish environment where they and their children will feel at home.

Religious School

Brith Sholom’s religious school provides a Jewish learning experience for children in kindergarten through seventh grade. Kindergarten, first, and second grades meet once a week on Sunday mornings. Grades three through seven have classes on Sunday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Students are expected to attend Shabbat and holiday services.

Currently, Brith Sholom and Temple Beth El are combining their religious schools virtually. The morning will include a prayer service, Hebrew class, and experiential program. Independent study is also available to families that cannot meet at the Beth El school time. Please speak with Rabbi Singer for the curriculum and to pick up books.

Celebration of Bar/Bat Mitzvah

The celebration of the bar or bat mitzvah is seen as a communal as well as a family milestone. Generally, a student will seek a bar or bat mitzvah date and training with Rabbi Singer, which will include learning to chant Torah and Haftarah, lead parts of the prayer service and write a d’var Torah.

United Synagogue Youth (USY-LevUSY chapter)

In our LevUSY chapter, teens help plan the events they are interested in, and if the past is any indicator, lock-ins, outdoor games, movies, and laser tag have all been popular. Our USY chapter is also dedicated to social justice work and engagement in the religious life of Brith Sholom, such as leading services, reading Torah, running Purim and Hanukkah events, and helping with the Faith Crawl, Shabbat dinners, and leading discussions of movies shown by the Bethlehem Interfaith Group (B.I.G.).
